Nearing the twilight of his career, Jason Castro determined to win another championship

Winning the PBA Commissioner's Cup crown means a lot for Jayson Castro.

The TNT superstar guard was quick to admit that time is no longer on his side and he may never have another opportunity to play in the finals.

"Yun yung challenge ko sa sarili ko na siyempre nasa point na ako na parang halos nandun na ako sa patapos ng peak ko, so eto yung time na gusto ko talagang mag-champion," revealed Castro after TnT defeated Barangay Ginebra, 103-92, in Game 4 of their best of five semifinal series on Thursday to advance to the finals of the mid-season tournament.

It was the first Finals appearance for the KaTropa since losing to San Miguel Beer in six games in the 2017 Commissioner's Cup title series.

The last time TnT won a championship was in the 2015 edition of the Commissioner's Cup when TNT survived Rain or Shine in seven games with former NBA player Ivan Johnson as import.

With the help of former Houston Rocket Terrence Jones, Castro, nearing the twilight of his career, has a bright chance to win his seventh PBA championship.

But the 33-year old insists Jones can't do it alone. He said team effort is crucial in their title quest.

Interestingly, Castro, Ryan Reyes, Harvey Carey and the injured Kelly Williams are the only remaining members of TNT team that won its last title.

Brian Heruela, whom TNT acquired in the Terrence Romeo trade during the offseason, have won four championships with San Miguel while David Semerad had six, also with the Beermen.

Roger Pogoy and Troy Rosario fell short in their first crack at the title during the said 2017 Commissioner's Cup Finals," Castro said. (JT)
