THE PBA delivered on its pledge to help victims of Tropical Storm Kristine as it donated a total of P2 million out of the entire proceeds from Game 1 of the Governors' Cup finals between Barangay Ginebra and TNT.
The donation was handed out by league Board Chairman Ricky Vargas and Commissioner Willie Marcial to the Alagang Kapatid Foundation during halftime of Game 5 Wednesday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
TV5 President Guido Zaballero and Alagang Kapatid Foundation Executive Director Menchie Silvestre received the check from Vargas and Marcial, who was accompanied by San Miguel Corporation (SMC) Sports Director Alfrancis Chua and team governors Robert Non (San Miguel) and Ronald Dulatre (NLEX).
The league announced during the formal presser for the best-of-seven title series that it would be donating all the proceeds it would earn from the finals opener held at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
And Game 1 proved to be a resounding blockbuster as it drew a record crowd of 11,021 for the highest live attendance to watch a PBA game at the Antipolo venue.
