IT was truly a Christmas Day to remember for Scottie Thompson.
The Barangay Ginebra guard buried the game-winning three against Magnolia in the PBA Christmas Day Clasico on the same night he was officially recognized for his 2,000th assist career milestone at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The former MVP reached the record at the 2:08 mark of the first period during Ginebra's game against Terrafirma last December 18 at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium which the Kings eventually won, 114-98.
Commissioner Willie Marcial personally handed out the specially-crafted PBA plaque to the 31-year-old Thompson during halftime of the Ginebra-Magnolia tussle played before a crowd of 12,198 at the Big Dome.
Thompson became only the third player in a Barangay Ginebra uniform to achieve the feat after LA Tenorio and Jayjay Helterbrand, and just the sixth active player after Tenorio, Alex Cabagnot, Jayson Castro, Chris Ross, and Mark Barroca.

Overall, he's the 32nd player to reach the mark in the 49-year history of Asia's grand old pro league.
This actually marked the second career achievement for Thompson in less than two months following his 2,000th defensive rebound feat accomplished last Nov. 3 during Game 4 of the Governors' Cup finals between TNT and Ginebra.
Later on, Thompson capped Christmas night by sinking a clutch corner three at the buzzer, leading the Kings to a dramatic 95-92 come-from-behind win against the Hotshots in a game where they trailed by as many as 22 points. (RG)
