Terrafirma tries to sustain momentum versus Meralco

SO FAR, coach Johnedel Cardel likes what he is seeing in his Terrafirma crew in the PBA On Tour.

Not enough, however, for Cardel be totally pleased.

"Although medyo maganda na ang takbo, hindi pa rin ganoon ka-consistent," said Cardel.

"Kailangan pa ring mag-improve on both ends of the court para kapag dumating na totohanang laban, mas disente maging performance namin," added Cardel.

Whatever progress the Dyip have garnered is sure to be tested anew when they take on a Meralco side equally eager to continue adding on to its own gains Sunday at the Ynares Arena in Pasig City.

The Bolts, steadily adjusting to the system being implemented by new head coach Luigi Trillo and active consultant Nenad Vucinic, are on a mini-run after winning their last two games that put them at 3-1.

For its part, Terrafirma improved to a 2-3 record following a 110-96 victory over NLEX just last Friday when the likes of Gelo Alolino, Andreas Cahilig, Allen Mina and Eric Camson provided ample support to top gunner Juami Tiongson.

Cardel acknowledged the fine effort put up by his players in keeping their poise in the face of the Road Warriors' surge from an early deficit.

"Maganda 'yung depensa namin tapos maganda rin 'yung pasensya naming," noted Cardel. "Sabi ko sa kanila makakabalik 'yan, na kung hindi kami dedepensa matatalo pa kami. Nag-react naman 'yung mga players."

It is the quick turnaround his players must make against a Meralco side bannered by Allein Maliksi, Bong Quinto, Anjo Caram, Cliff Hodge and Raymond Almazan that gnaws at Cardel the most.

"Kaya nga hindi ko sila masyadong pinatatakbo sa practices namin kahit even before the NLEX game, in anticipation nga dito sa back-to-back games namin," related Cardel. "Mostly, scouting reports at saka walkthrough lang."

Fresh legs are indeed a must for the Dyip since their opponents are well rested following a 92-89 decision over San Miguel Beer last Saturday. (NC)
