Williams scores 57 points as Terrafirma clobbers Blackwater

IMPORT Jordan Williams caught fire and delivered a conference-high 57 points to power Terrafirma to a bounceback 119-106 victory over Blackwater in the PBA Governors' Cup Thursday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Shooting the lights out at the Big Dome while a fire raged outside at the nearby bus station, Williams dropped 22 in the fourth as he sparked a clutch 9-2 bomb late in the fourth that enabled the Dyip to pull away, 115-103.

The troops of Johnedel Cardel improved to 2-2.

"My teammates and my coach gave me confidence. They trusted me to be the leader and take over when it's time to finish the game so shout out to them for trusting and believing in me," said Williams, who reset the Governors' Cup's scoring record of 56 set by TnT's Jalen Hudson barely 24 hours before.

Williams made 18 of his 34 shots and added 11 rebounds and five assists to his statline as he got the better of his fiery shootout against Blackwater counterpart Troy Williams.

Troy Williams rifled in 55 on a 15-of-33 clip but fell short in preventing Blackwater from spiraling to its third consecutive loss for 1-4 overall.

With this victory, the Dyip are now in their best campaign of the season. They previously ended up winless in the Philippine Cup (0-11) and pulled through just once in 12 games in the Commissioner's Cup.

"It's our first time to have two wins after the (2020 Clark) bubble. Hopefully we can build on this as we play Meralco next game," said Cardel.

The Dyip seized an early 16-point lead in the first. They were up by 11 at 37-26 at the 9:56 mark of the second canto when play was suspended and officials took time to assess the situation. Action resumed after 20 minutes and Terrafirma maintained control.

"Parang nakatulong pa sa amin (delay). At least we regrouped," said Cardel. (OL)
