Brownlee breaches 5,000 mark in all-time import scoring list

JUSTIN Brownlee continues to make a case as one of the best imports ever in PBA history after achieving another milestone Sunday at the end of Game 3 of the Commissioner's Cup semifinals between Barangay Ginebra and Magnolia.

The 34-year-old Brownlee became just the fifth import in league annals to reach 5,000 career points after exploding for 38 in the Kings' runaway 103-80 victory over the Hotshots for a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series.

The Ginebra resident import already breached the 5,000 mark by halftime and finished the game with a total career-points of 5,019.

Only Norman Black, the late Bobby Parks and Lew Massey, along with Sean Chambers did the special feat in the past.

Brownlee naturally is grateful to be mentioned in the same breath as those legendary imports.

"I know the list of five players and I'm on the top five scoring (list). To be mentioned with those guys now, it's definitely a great achievement for myself," said the Gilas Pilipinas naturalized player candidate.

"It just really means having played for a long time here," he said with a smile. "But I'm enjoying it."

Brownlee of course, isn't through yet.

The import still has a shot at climbing the scoring list as he now takes an aim at the no. 4 spot currently occupied by Massey (5,386).

But personal glory takes a backseat for Brownlee, stressing the need to 'win first' for the Kings, who are now on the verge of making it back to the finals of the same conference it last won in 2018. (RG)
