Contrasting fates as Ross, Tenorio achieve career milestones

CHRIS Ross got the better end of LA Tenorio as the two veteran guards achieved separate PBA milestones Friday night.

Ross, 36, officially clinched the no. 5 spot in the league's all-time steals mark, while Tenorio, 37, barged into the Top 10 of the career assists ladder as certified by league chief statistician Fidel Mangonon III.

Both players accomplished the feat during the San Miguel-Barangay Ginebra Philippine Cup tussle at the Don Honorio Ventura State University gym in Bacolor, Pampanga, although the Beermen's 111-102 victory made the personal record a bit memorable for Ross.

The San Miguel Fil-Am guard, a two-time Defensive Player of the Year, pulled off a total of four steals during the game to move past Dindo Pumaren in the all-time career list with 905.

As early as the 8:03 mark of the second quarter, Ross already secured his place in the Top 5 list, which is led by Johnny Abarrientos, now a deputy coach with Magnolia, with a total of 1,358.

Aside from the four steals, Ross also spiked his personal stat sheets by finishing with 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting, grabbed three rebounds, and dished off four assists in 35 minutes of play as the Beermen improved to 5-2 overall.

Meanwhile following Ginebra's loss, Tenorio consoled himself by securing the no. 10 spot among the all-time assist leaders.

Tenorio finished with 11 assists to displace Ginebra deputy mentor Olsen Racela with a total of 3,091 assists. He tied Racela at 10th place during the first half with 3,085 total.

He eventually tallied 19 points behind a 7-of-10 shooting including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc in a losing cause for the 3-4 Kings.
