LEO Austria takes his undefeated act to the EASL (East Asia Super League) as San Miguel battles home team Eastern at the Southorn Stadium in Hong Kong on Wednesday.
Austria racked up two straight wins since taking over the coaching chores for the Beermen in lieu of Jorge Gallent to put the defending champions back on the winning track with a 3-2 record in the PBA Commissioner's Cup.
Now, the veteran coach hopes to turn around the Beermen's campaign in the home-and-away league when they're so far carry a 0-2 slate in Group A.
San Miguel both lost at home against the Taoyuan Pauian Pilots, 101-85, and the Suwon KT Sonicboom, 87-81.
The 8:10 p.m. encounter will actually pit the two winless teams in the group as Eastern also has a 0-2 slate following back-to-back losses to defending B. League champion Hiroshima Dragonflies, 78-67, on the road and 88-75 at home.
Sponsored content: Eastern though, has been on a winning run of late in its PBA Commissioner's Cup bid where it won its last three outings against TNT (105-84), Blackwater (84-75), and Barangay Ginebra (93-90) for a second running 5-1 record.
Meanwhile in South Korea, the depleted Meralco Bolts face defending Korean Basketball League champion Busan KCC Egis in a rematch between the two teams.
The game at the Busan Sajik gymnasium is set at 7:10 p.m.
The Bolts, who are in second place in Group B with a 2-1 record, continue to play with a shorthanded roster with injuries to Raymond Almazan, Allein Maliksi, Chris Banchero, Jolo Mendoza, and rookie CJ Cansino.
But Akil Mitchell, hero of Meralco's 81-80 win over the same KBL side last month, has been given the go-signal by doctors to finally play after undergoing surgery on his broken nose.
Sponsored content: Mitchell added to the Bolts' list of walking wounded recently, and missed out on the team's 114-98 loss to Blackwater in the Commissioner's Cup where it has a 3-1 record.
Busan KCC Egis is currently at the bottom of Group B with a 0-3 slate. (RG)
